This investigation compared the efficacy of two mechanical methods for tongue cleaning through a handheld sulfide monitor. This crossover trial was carried out with 10 healthy subjects, 20 to 50 years old. Before the baseline measurement of the volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs), the subjects were instructed to refrain from any tongue cleaning method for 48 hours. The 10 participants were then placed in one of two groups (five each): 1) first week: tongue scraper, second week: soft-bristle toothbrush; 2) first week: toothbrush, second week: tongue scraper, with a 48-hour wash-out period between each week.

The main actions are currently the Grundtvig In-Training series "European Intercultural Stimulation - becoming a diplomat between the cultures" organised by the CRN itself, involving at the moment 20 different partner from all over Europe. Secondly CRN is organising together with the city of Szczecin and the Euroregion Pomerania a course series on "intercultural competences in border regions". The Rutgers Program in Comparative Literature is pleased to announce a five-year collaboration with the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM) . This partnership, beginning in 2018-19 and funded generously by the Mellon Foundation’s Critical Theory in the Global South initiative, will support reciprocal dissertation workshops in Mexico City and New Brunswick, as well as the creation of a new interdisciplinary course, to be taught concurrently in English and Spanish at Rutgers and UNAM, on “The University and Its Publics: North, South, and In Between.”

The medical field also benefits from the study of comparative genomics. Vaccinology in particular has experienced useful advances in technology due to genomic approaches to problems. In an approach known as reverse vaccinology , researchers can discover candidate antigens for vaccine development by analyzing the genome of a pathogen or a family of pathogens. [33] Applying a comparative genomics approach by analyzing the genomes of several related pathogens can lead to the development of vaccines that are multiprotective. A team of researchers employed such an approach to create a universal vaccine for Group B Streptococcus , a group of bacteria responsible for severe neonatal infection. [34] Comparative genomics can also be used to generate specificity for vaccines against pathogens that are closely related to commensal microorganisms. For example, researchers used comparative genomic analysis of commensal and pathogenic strains of E. coli to identify pathogen specific genes as a basis for finding antigens that result in immune response against pathogenic strains but not commensal ones.
